Gun & Weapon Offenses

Weapon Offenses Attorney

Gun/Weapon Offenses

There are very strict laws in Illinois in regards to gun control and it is the only state that does not operate under a specific condition regarding carrying a concealed firearm. If you do not have a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, you are not allowed to have a weapon in your vehicle. If you are in possession of a FOID card, you are allowed to have a gun inside of your vehicle, providing that the gun is enclosed in a case or other type of container and the gun is unloaded.

If you are carrying a gun that is not in a case, that is considered to be unlawful use of a weapon (UUW). Any firearms that you own also must be registered with your local police department. There are situations in which UUW is classified as a class 4 felony, which can carry a prison sentence of 1-3 years.
